On December 26, 2025, the “Launch Forward: 2025 Financial Summit,” hosted by JINRONGJIE (a leading Chinese financial media platform), concluded successfully in Beijing. Themed “A New Starting Point, New Drivers of Growth, and a New Journey,” the summit brought together hundreds of senior officials from regulatory agencies, industry associations, financial institutions, listed companies, and media outlets. A highlight of the event was the announcement of the 14th annual “Jin Zhi Award” — a prestigious recognition program evaluating corporate excellence across China’s capital markets. Zhao Tao, Chairman of Buchang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., was honored with the “Outstanding Innovative Entrepreneur” award for his pioneering contributions to the pharmaceutical industry, sustained commitment to R&D-driven innovation, and deep-rooted dedication to social responsibility.
The Jin Zhi Award evaluation framework aligns closely with national policy priorities outlined in the draft recommendations for China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, particularly the directive to “enhance the quality of listed companies.” The assessment model quantifies enterprise performance across six core dimensions: social responsibility, real-economy contribution, investment returns, growth potential, innovation efficiency, and brand strength. Leveraging publicly disclosed financial data and corporate disclosures, the analysis covered more than 8,000 listed companies—including A-share, H-share, and U.S.-listed Chinese firms—ultimately selecting nearly 200 winners.
Zhao Tao’s journey into medicine began early: born into a family of physicians, he developed a profound interest in clinical practice and pharmacology during his formative years. In 1992, at the outset of his entrepreneurial career, he traveled to Singapore with a proprietary traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation—facing significant barriers including language differences, cultural unfamiliarity, and an untested market. There, he provided pro bono treatment to a woman with severe post-stroke sequelae who had exhausted conventional options. Using an integrative approach combining TCM principles with evidence-informed clinical practice, he helped restore her ability to stand and walk—a result that garnered widespread local attention and catalyzed his first commercial success. This experience cemented his resolve to advance high-quality, scientifically grounded herbal therapeutics on a global scale.
Upon returning to China, Zhao co-founded Buchang Pharmaceutical with his family. To build market credibility, he led field teams across the country—visiting hospitals and pharmacies directly, presenting clinical data, and facilitating investigator-initiated trials. In one pivotal case, when introducing Buchang’s flagship products to a third-tier city where clinicians expressed skepticism, Zhao invited independent medical experts to conduct rigorous, site-based clinical evaluations. The resulting robust efficacy and safety data secured institutional trust and paved the way for broader adoption. Under his leadership, the company evolved from a small-scale manufacturer into a vertically integrated, publicly traded pharmaceutical enterprise with comprehensive capabilities in R&D, GMP-compliant manufacturing, and nationwide distribution.
Headquartered in Shandong Province, Buchang Pharmaceutical has emerged as one of the world’s largest manufacturers of natural plant-derived medicines. It is recognized as a national leader in patented TCM formulations—emphasizing modern pharmacological validation, standardized extraction technologies, and clinical trial–supported indications. Its portfolio includes several nationally designated Class I new TCM drugs approved for conditions such as ischemic stroke, coronary artery disease, and chronic kidney disease.
Beyond commercial leadership, Zhao Tao has championed large-scale public health initiatives. In May 2008—amid the emergency response to the Wenchuan earthquake—he co-founded the “United Hearts, Building China’s Health Together” public welfare program. Now entering its 18th year, the initiative has mobilized over 32,000 healthcare professionals from more than 3,000 medical institutions across China, representing over 20 clinical specialties. Under the academic guidance of academicians including Zhang Boli, Gao Runlin, Wang Longde, Huang Luqi, Chen Xiangmei, Lang Jinghe, Chen Kaixian, Han Yaling, and Dong Jiahong, the program has delivered comprehensive health services—including free screenings, surgical interventions, chronic disease management, and physician training—to over one million residents across 100+ counties in Tibet and the four Tibetan-inhabited provinces (Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, and Yunnan).
Zhao has consistently emphasized that corporate citizenship, fiscal responsibility, and scientific innovation are mutually reinforcing—not competing—priorities. “Altruism is embedded in Buchang’s DNA,” he stated previously. “While one company’s capacity is finite, our aim is to catalyze broader societal engagement—inviting clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and communities to co-create sustainable health solutions.”
The “Outstanding Innovative Entrepreneur” distinction reflects not only Zhao Tao’s personal leadership but also Buchang Pharmaceutical’s demonstrable progress toward high-quality, science-led, and socially accountable growth. Looking ahead, the company continues to invest in next-generation TCM research—including AI-assisted compound screening, biomarker-driven clinical development, and international regulatory pathway expansion—with the dual mission of advancing therapeutic innovation and strengthening population health resilience.
