Chronic overuse is strongly associated with weight gain and increased risk of metabolic syndrome due to excess caloric intake without corresponding energy expenditure. In children and adolescents, habitual intake contributes significantly to daily added sugar consumption—exceeding American Heart Association recommendations and elevating long-term risk for dental caries, insulin resistance, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
For individuals with hypertension, heart failure, or chronic kidney disease, the sodium load may exacerbate fluid retention, elevate blood pressure, and impair renal sodium excretion. Similarly, patients with diabetes or prediabetes face glycemic challenges, as rapid absorption of glucose and sucrose can provoke postprandial hyperglycemia and impair glucose homeostasis.
