Infants’ skin is exceptionally thin and delicate, making it highly susceptible to micro-abrasions, irritation, and infection. Using a razor, scissors, or any sharp instrument near the eyes poses a significant safety hazard—even minor nicks can lead to corneal injury or introduce pathogens into the periorbital area. Moreover, eyebrow hair growth is determined by genetics and hormonal influences—not by shaving. Shaving does not alter hair follicle density, thickness, or pigmentation. What may appear as “thicker” or “darker” regrowth after shaving is an optical illusion: newly emerging hairs have blunt tips and lack tapering, making them seem coarser and more noticeable against the skin.
Clinically, eyebrow development in infants follows normal developmental timelines. Most babies are born with fine, light-colored lanugo or vellus hairs that gradually transition to terminal hairs over months to years, influenced by maturation of hair follicles and rising androgen levels during later infancy and childhood. Any perceived changes in eyebrow appearance post-shaving reflect transient mechanical effects—not biological enhancement.
Pediatric dermatologists and ophthalmologists uniformly advise against eyebrow shaving in infants and young children. Instead, caregivers should focus on gentle cleansing and protection from environmental irritants. If concerns arise about sparse, asymmetrical, or absent eyebrow growth—particularly when accompanied by other signs such as hypotonia, developmental delay, or abnormal hair distribution—a pediatric evaluation is warranted to rule out underlying conditions like hypothyroidism, nutritional deficiencies, or syndromic disorders.
