Researchers have developed a novel agricultural strategy to enhance both yield and profitability in maize cultivation, leveraging integrated pest management (IPM) principles alongside precision nutrient application. This approach emphasizes synchronized planting of pest-resistant hybrid varieties with targeted foliar micronutrient supplementation—particularly zinc and boron—during critical vegetative and reproductive growth stages. Field trials across multiple agroecological zones demonstrated consistent yield increases of 12–18% compared to conventional practices, without expanding land use or increasing nitrogen fertilizer inputs. Economic analyses revealed improved net returns per hectare due to reduced pesticide expenditures and higher grain quality, reflected in elevated test weight and reduced aflatoxin contamination. The method also supports soil health sustainability by incorporating cover cropping during fallow periods and minimizing tillage intensity.
