Fibroadenomas are the most common benign breast tumors in women under 30 and are strongly associated with estrogen sensitivity. Although no specific food or supplement has been proven to shrink or prevent these lesions, evidence-based dietary patterns emphasize reducing exposure to exogenous estrogens and minimizing chronic inflammation—both of which may contribute to fibroepithelial proliferation.
A whole-foods, plant-forward diet is recommended: prioritize cruciferous vegetables (e.g., broccoli, cauliflower, kale), which contain indole-3-carbinol and sulforaphane—compounds shown in preclinical studies to support healthy estrogen metabolism by promoting the 2-hydroxylation pathway over more potent, potentially proliferative metabolites. Include flaxseeds (ground, for optimal lignan bioavailability), a rich source of phytoestrogens that may exert selective, anti-estrogenic effects in breast tissue via competitive binding to estrogen receptors.
Limit or avoid ultra-processed foods, added sugars, and excessive saturated fats—factors linked to insulin resistance and elevated bioavailable estrogen levels.
