Infection Susceptibility and Immune Dysfunction
Recurrent urinary tract infections, candidal vaginitis, and upper respiratory illnesses suggest hyperglycemia-induced immune compromise—including impaired neutrophil chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and complement activity. Skin and soft-tissue infections may progress rapidly; even minor wounds exhibit delayed epithelialization and increased risk of cellulitis or abscess formation.
These symptoms collectively represent a constellation of pathophysiologic consequences—not isolated quirks of seasonal change.
