Rehabilitation for hemiparesis—or hemiplegia, depending on severity—requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach tailored to the individual’s functional impairments, underlying etiology (most commonly stroke, but also traumatic brain injury, brain tumor, or cerebral infection), and recovery potential. Core components include early mobilization, physical therapy focused on restoring motor control, balance, and gait; occupational therapy to retrain activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, feeding, and hygiene; and speech-language pathology when aphasia, dysarthria, or swallowing dysfunction (dysphagia) is present.
