Additionally, young children’s developing oral-motor skills and limited chewing efficiency can make fibrous or crunchy vegetables challenging to manage, contributing to avoidance behaviors. Texture aversion—particularly to slimy, mushy, or stringy consistencies—is often more influential than flavor alone.
