When to Schedule a Follow-Up Appointment After Epididymal Cyst Surgery

Patients who undergo surgical excision of an epididymal cyst are typically discharged from the hospital within 24 to 48 hours postoperatively, assuming no complications such as wound infection, persistent scrotal hematoma, or significant pain. Sutures—whether absorbable or non-absorbable—are usually removed between postoperative days 5 and 7, depending on wound healing and surgeon preference.

Follow-up evaluation is recommended approximately two weeks after suture removal, or roughly three weeks after surgery. This initial outpatient visit allows clinicians to assess wound integrity, evaluate for signs of infection or seroma formation, confirm resolution of preoperative symptoms (e.g., scrotal fullness or discomfort), and address any patient concerns regarding recovery or activity resumption.

Additional surveillance may be indicated if clinical findings raise suspicion for recurrence, residual cystic tissue, or unrelated pathology—such as a new testicular mass—warranting further imaging (e.g., scrotal ultrasound) or urologic consultation. Routine long-term surveillance is not required in the absence of recurrent symptoms or abnormal physical examination findings.
