This step allows the resin to fully expand, soften, and release impurities; insufficient soaking may result in a gritty or rubbery consistency and increase the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort.
After soaking, the gum should be gently rinsed to remove any residual debris or surface contaminants. It is then simmered in fresh water over low to medium-low heat for approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
