Tofu is a high-quality plant protein source that contains all essential amino acids, making it nutritionally valuable. However, it also contains moderate amounts of phosphorus and potassium—minerals that accumulate in the blood when kidney function declines. In early-stage CKD (stages 1–3), most patients can consume tofu in moderation as part of a balanced, low-sodium, low-phosphorus diet, especially if serum electrolytes remain within target ranges.
